Brady Denmark, a California transplant to Texas, has been part of the 40+ Team Roping Championships for the last five years. She and her husband, Dan, were introduced to the organization by former owner, Lloyd South, when they first settled in Texas. When asked about her experience being part of the 40+ Brady says, “The camaraderie and people are just so amazing. Everybody is kind and supportive, and they make it an open and welcoming place to rope. Our youngest son brings his pony, Barbarossa, to events and we don’t have to worry about him because everyone there feels like family.”

Brady has two mares that she has used to compete in various events over the years. Her 7-year-old sorrel mare, Bougie, has been with the Denmark family since she was a yearling. After an injury put Bougie on the path to rest and recover, Brady pulled out another mare, Dolly, to try her in the roping pen. Dolly was started out in a reining program, but came to the Denmark’s as a two year old where she quickly became an all-around horse. From packing around Brady’s youngest son to backing into the box, Dolly has been a great asset to their program.

Growing up in a rodeo family Brady had the opportunity to compete in a variety of events: goat tying, breakaway roping, etc. She got bit by the team roping bug at 12 years old when she started roping alongside her best friend Jimmie Jackson and her family. Throughout her career she has found a lot of success in roping, but she has other passions within the horse world as well. “I love being a mom, so I find joy and success in seeing both of our sons grow as horsemen and reach for their own personal goals. The Pennell family gave us an amazing horse for our youngest son, Waylon, to jackpot and rodeo on. Marshmallow has been a great addition to our family and we are so thankful to them for giving us the opportunity to have him in our barn.”

When Brady isn’t in the roping pen competing she can be found in the arena working colts. “My other goals are similar to my husband’s in that we want to focus on the young horses. We started our own breeding program and are getting ready for our first crop of Reata Buckle colts to hit the ground. We also have two young horses that we’re hoping to futurity on for both heading and heeling.” When asked about their training program Brady said, “I love seeing our young horses moving through the training cycle. I start the colts and get them ready for Dan to fine tune them. We both get to use them at 40+ events, which are the perfect place to get these horses the experience and seasoning they need to turn into competitive athletes. These horses get good exposure and practice, and we get to have fun because everyone at the events understands how important it is to get these horses time in the box.”

Good horses are only one piece of the puzzle for the Denmark family. CSI Saddlepads have been an integral part of the entire family’s experience whether that’s in competition or riding at home. “We have been with CSI since they started, and they have been so wonderful to us through the years. They have even made a specialty pad for Barbarossa so that he and Waylon are outfitted with the best of the best. Miss Donna, Jake, and Bailey have been such great people to work with and we cannot thank them enough for their continued support of our entire family.”
